Toronto police say they came out empty-handed after responding to a call they received about a person with a gun.
A large team of officers, including the emergency task force, responded to a building near King Street West and Peter Street, east of Spadina Avenue, around 1 p.m. Thursday.
They had got a tip about a person with a gun who had possibly forced someone into a building at 365 King St. W.
Police treated the incident as real and followed emergency protocol, but after entering the building and they found no one with a gun.
Const. Allyson Douglas-Cook said the building is clear and there is no immediate danger.
Police say there are still unanswered questions and they are investigating.
King Street was reopened to traffic shortly after 4 p.m.
