Five men are in custody after a tense standoff near Dundas Street West and University Avenue early Tuesday morning.
Police were called around 3:30 a.m. for reports of someone with a gun getting into a car at King and Church streets.
They found the vehicle near Dundas and Chestnut streets, two blocks east of University, and when they arrived in the area, a man allegedly pointed a gun at one of the officers.
He then barricaded himself inside a restaurant.
With the help of the emergency task force (ETF), officers evacuated the restaurant and arrested five men without incident.
They also allegedly recovered a firearm.
Bystander Mike Faria said he was on his way to work at the time and saw about two dozen police cruisers in the area.
He saw officers running towards the restaurant, yelling, with their guns out and said they pulled several men out of the building.
No injuries were reported.
